Über dieses Spiel

GURPS, or the Generic Universal RolePlaying System, is a classic tabletop roleplaying game first released in 1986. Now in its fourth edition, GURPS carries on the legacy of a game that can do anything. With a basic set of rules for general play, plus a host of modular additions, supplements, settings, character options, and easy-to-homebrew mechanics, GURPS is designed to play any kind of game imaginable. Any genre, any setting, any high concept is possible for the players and game master who can choose the rules that are right for them and customize their game to their exact tastes. From venerable publisher Steve Jackson Games, GURPS is legendary for the sheer volume of support from its creator; for almost any setting, element, genre, or character you can imagine, there exists a supplement for it. In addition to popular settings like Terry Pratchett's Discworld and Robert E. Howard's Conan, GURPS has supplementary books for magic, martial arts, fantasy, horror, superheroes, spaceships, dinosaurs, historical settings, high-tech, low-tech, and many, many more. GURPS doesn't use classes, instead relying on a skill-based system. Most rolls use 3d6, attempting to roll under a target number increased by stats, skills, perks and advantages purchased with allotted points at character creation and through advancement. Thanks again to the huge amount of playable material for the game, if you can imagine a character, there's a way to build them in GURPS.

Let's Make a GURPS Character

A guide to creating a completely custom character in GURPS. Beginning with a character concept, Zigmenthotep proceeds to explain how to realize that concept using (mostly) the basic core GURPS rules. Starting with a modest pool of 150 points, first purchase advantages for the character, unique bonuses and powers they possess. Then set their basic attributes, Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence and Health, and derive and improve secondary characteristics, like encumbrance and speed. Next, purchase skills, areas of training and expertise the character would have, and, likely being over budget in character points by this time, pick up some disadvantages to make your way back to zero.

Finally, purchase some equipment based on the starting currency allotted in your game, and put the finishing touches on the character by recording their combat stats, origin, and backstory.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What makes GURPS different from other tabletop games?
Many tabletop games are designed with a specific genre in mind. For example, D&D 5e is high fantasy, Call of Cthulu is eldritch horror, and Cyberpunk Red is sci-fi and futuristic. On the other hand, GURPS is designed to fit into any genre you want to play in!
What are the stats in GURPS?
There are 4 stats in GURPS: Strength, Dexterity, IQ and Health.
Do I need to know all the rules before I play GURPS?
Knowing every rule of the game may be helpful to some, but many players will learn the game as they play! If you want to read the rules ahead of time you absolutely can, but if you are a hands-on learner you can also just start playing, and if there is something you don’t understand never be afraid to ask questions, because everyone starts somewhere!
What if I'm uncomfortable with certain themes in GURPS?
GURPS can cover an impressive range of topics and styles, since it's designed to play in any genre! However, if there are specific themes or content that you’re uncomfortable with, let your group and GM know before the game, and have an open conversation about these topics. Any group worth playing with should be respectful and understanding of your concerns and the game can be adjusted so everyone is having fun. All tables on StartPlaying also use “Safety Tools” which help ensure that these conversations are handled easily, and everyone has a voice at the table
What do you need to play GURPS?
To play GURPS, you’ll need a character sheet, some d6s and a group of friends! All of these can be physically or virtually present, and at least one of you should understand the basic rules. Usually, that’s the Game Master, the player who prepares the scenario, presents it to the players, and facilitates the game. This player can help the rest learn as they play, creating characters and letting the job unfold!
How does character creation work without classes?
Because GURPS is skill-based, rather than class-based, your character's talents can be represented by the skills you choose to make them better at and the perks and advantages you buy with the points your character starts with. As you advance, you might gain additional points to spend, allowing you to grow in any direction you choose. Your skills, abilities, and powers don't come predetermined or prepackaged; at every point, you'll get to pick the way your character grows based on the genre and setting you're playing in.
