Über dieses Spiel

In Kids on Bikes, players take on the roles of everyday people grappling with strange, terrifying, and powerful forces that they cannot defeat, control, or even fully understand. It isn't just a tabletop roleplaying game; it's a collaborative worldbuilding game too! Players work together to create the small town in which their game is set and its unique brand of strangeness. Are there UFO sightings and alien abductions? Mysterious science labs doing secret experiments? An underground criminal enterprise? You'll have to play to find the truth! Inspired by kids' coming-of-age tales like Stranger Things, E.T., and The Goonies, Kids on Bikes stars an intrepid band of young people who will stop at nothing to solve mysteries, stop injustices, protect their friends and save their town! The game even allows you to create a communally controlled Powered Character (like E.T. or Eleven) to add another dimension to your games. Kids on Bikes is rules-light, quick to pick up, and focused on collaborative storytelling. So what are you waiting for? Hop on your bike and solve that case!

How to Build a Character and Play Kids on Bikes

Kids on Bikes is so easy to learn, this video explains how to make a character and get rolling in just three minutes!

To start, you'll make a character by assigning dice to your six stats, which are Brains, Brawn, Fight, Flight, Charm, and Grit. You'll assign a d20 to the stat you want to be your best, then down a d12, a d10, a d8, a d6, and finally a d4 to your weakest stat. You'll also choose your age (kid, teen, or adult), which offers a small bonus to two stats. You can choose a Strength for your character, a special ability or bonus benefit based on their personality.

In play, whenever you attempt something challenging, you'll roll the appropriate die against a target number set by the game master. If you roll equal to or higher than the target number, you succeed! If you roll the highest value possible on your die, that die explodes, meaning you get to roll again and add the total--you can even do this multiple times if you get lucky! Combat is resolved by opposed rolls between combatants and taking the difference between the two numbers, with more extreme results on bigger gaps.

Finally, if your game includes a powered character, you'll create their powers and quirks together with the rest of your table!

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What supplies do I need to play Kids on Bikes?
Obviously this will vary from table to table, but here are some good places to start! If your game is played in person, most likely you will want to get a set of dice, something to write with, and paper to take notes. If your game is hosted online instead, you will probably need to make accounts on a few sites for things like character sheets, access to the Virtual Tabletop for maps and tokens, and sites like Discord or Zoom for video/voice calls during the session. You won't always need to have the rulebooks to start, but if you want to read through them to make sure you know all the rules, this might also be a good option.
Which dice does Kids on Bikes use?
Kids on Bikes uses a full standard dice set, including a D20, D12, D10, D8, D6, and a D4. Players apply 1 die to each of their 6 stats - Brains, Brawn, Fight, Flight, Charm, and Grit. The larger the die, the stronger the character is in that ability.
What is Kids on Bikes inspired by?
Kids on Bikes is inspired by movies and TV shows like Stranger Things, The Goonies, Super 8, Monster Squad, Paper Girls, Stand by Me, and IT.

What do you do in Kids on Bikes?
You'll play as a friend group of ordinary young people with various talents who put their heads together to solve mysteries that plague their small town. Depending on the tone and genre of your game, you might investigate (and hopefully stop) a roving monster terrorizing the neighborhood, a shadowy government agency spying on your town, bounty hunters tracking down your newfound alien friend, or a serial killer targeting your neighbors! You might also create a communal Powered Character, with special abilities that make them uniquely strong--and uniquely vulnerable. This character is available for anyone at the table to pick up and play!
Do I need to know all the rules before I can play Kids on Bikes?
Knowing every rule of the game may be helpful to some, but many players will learn the game as they play! If you want to read the rules ahead of time you absolutely can, but if you are a hands-on learner you can also just start playing, and if there is something you don’t understand never be afraid to ask questions, because everyone starts somewhere!
What are exploding dice in Kids on Bikes?
When you roll a die in Kids on Bikes and it shows its highest value (e.g. the 8 on a d8), that die explodes! When a die explodes, you roll it again and add that roll to the total (e.g. rolling a 5 on that same d8 after an explosion would net you a total of 13). It's possible for a die to explode multiple times, allowing you to rack up a stunning success even with a humble d4!
