Über dieses Spiel

MÖRK BORG is a pitch-black apocalyptic fantasy RPG about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and dying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from it’s inevitable end? Confront power-draining necromancers, skulking skeletal warriors and backstabbing wickheads. Wander the Valley of the Unfortunate Undead, the catacombs beneath the Bergen Chrypt or the bedevilled Sarkash forest. But leave hope behind – the world’s cruel fate is sealed, and all your vain heroic efforts are destined to end in death and dismay. Or are they? MÖRK BORG is a rules-light, everything-else-dark game of Pyrrhic victories, lethal combat, terrifying monsters, and pervasive doom. It's legendary for its slick visuals, minimalist rules, and maximalist aesthetic design. MÖRK BORG has inspired dozens of other games in various settings and genres, always with a twist of apocalyptic darkness. The original is set in the ruins of a fantasy world that draws on Scandinavian folklore and prophecies of the end of the world.

Learn How to Play Mörk Borg

Learn how to create a character and play Mörk Borg in less than fifteen minutes with this video, which will walk you through even the finer points of this rules-light, style-heavy game!

Creating a character is quick, simple, and mostly randomized. Optionally, you can choose a class before you begin, which changes the random tables you'll roll on, but by default, your character is an adventurer. Start by rolling for equipment, weapon, and armor. Then roll 3d6 and compare the results to a table to determine your abilities, Agility, Presence, Strength, and Toughness, rated from -3 to +3. A roll of 1d8 plus your toughness determines your hit points, and your character is complete, ready to rob graves or die trying! As a final touch, the book says, "Name your character if you wish. It will not save you."

The rules are rather simple as well: to accomplish a task, succeed at a test by rolling a d20 plus or minus the relevant ability and getting a result greater than or equal to a Difficulty Rating, or DR, set by the game master. DR is a target number measuring the relative difficulty of a task, and the normal DR in Mörk Borg is 12. In combat, players roll tests against their opponents' DR both to attack them and defend themselves. Armor reduces damage, and characters are knocked unconscious at zero hit points and killed at negative hit points. There are a few extra rules, including for powers and magic spells, critical hits and fumbles, morale and NPC reactions, and a doomsday calendar with omens leading up to the final end of the world! Most other rules are optional.

Fanged Deserter

Gutterborn Scum

Gutterborn Scum

An ill star smiled upon your birth. Poverty, crime and bad parenting didn't help either. In your community an honest day's work was never an option. Not that you ever tried, what are you, some kind of mug? A razor blade and a moonless night are worth a week of chump-work.

Heretical Priest

Hunted by the two-headed basilisks of the One True Faith, this heretic can be found raving in ruins, traipsing endlessly down dusty roads and desecrating cathedrals by night.

Obviously this will vary from table to table, but here are some good places to start! If your game is played in person, most likely you will want to get a set of dice, something to write with, and paper to take notes. If your game is hosted online instead, you will probably need to make accounts on a few sites for things like character sheets, access to the Virtual Tabletop for maps and tokens, and sites like Discord or Zoom for video/voice calls during the session.
