About this Game

The world is broken. In a collapsing universe, your crew is your only family. Death in Space takes you to a grimy blue-collar future in a universe filled with risk, but also opportunity. Death in Space is a game about adventure and uncertain journeys out into the darkness of space, where the void whispers to the unlucky and imbues travelers’ bodies with strange powers. It is about you and your crew making a home of your spacecraft or station, your only sanctuary in a dangerous universe. Most of all, it is about surviving in an abandoned frontier system where resources are scarce, and competition is fierce. Engage in power struggles and build your crew’s reputation. Salvage and steal to endure a ruthless universe. And above all, do anything you can to get that next job. Your life will depend on it.

Origins

Carbon

Grown in space-based exo-wombs. Short life spans. Live their lives offworld and are untroubled by the darkness of space. More comfortable in an EVA suit than out of one.

Chrome

Ancient AI placed in a body vessel of organic material. Part machine, but with an organic CPU and a distributed neural system that requires oxygen.

Punk

Rebellious and non-conformist with a long history. They have seen civilizations collapse, and others turn against each other

Solpod

Hibernating for decades, only staying awake for short periods. They dedicate their lives to the scientific study of slow, cosmic phenomena.

Velocity Cursed

Ill-fated ones that have started to lose their connection to reality. They shift and flicker in and out of spacetime with glitching faces.

Void

Robed nihility shamans, hidden behind masks, speaking through synthetic voice scramblers. They have seen visions of the edge of the universe.

Frequently Asked Questions

What supplies do you need to play Death in Space?
Obviously this will vary from table to table, but here are some good places to start! If your game is played in person, most likely you will want to get a set of dice, something to write with, and paper to take notes. If your game is hosted online instead, you will probably need to make accounts on a few sites for things like character sheets, access to the Virtual Tabletop for maps and tokens, and sites like Discord or Zoom for video/voice calls during the session. You won't always need to have the rulebooks to start, but if you want to read through them to make sure you know all the rules, this might also be a good option.
What if I'm not comfortable with certain themes or content in Death in Space?
Tabletop Roleplaying Games can cover an impressive range of topics and styles, including violence, horror, romance, and many many more! However, if there are specific themes or content that you’re uncomfortable with, let your group and GM know before the game, and have an open conversation about these topics. Any group worth playing with should be respectful and understanding of your concerns and the game can be adjusted so everyone is having fun. Where is Death in Space set?
Death in Space is set in The Tenebris System. Tenebris is populated by seekers, scoundrels and miners, all stuck in the system that was the epicenter of the Gem Rush and the resulting war. All over the system, traces of the war still linger in the form of debris from destroyed satellites and lost spacecraft. The focal point of civilization in Tenebris is the Iron Ring, a structure orbiting the moon Inauro, one of the satellites of a dead gas giant in the middle of the habitable zone. Inauro was the center of the Gem War, but there, the gems are now long gone.
Is there music for Death in Space?
In December 2021, the official soundtrack for Death in Space released. It is 90 minutes of atmospheric music divided into 12 tracks, it is perfect to enjoy while awaiting the collapse of the universe.
